Get to know new people through the participation programme

What?

During the civic integration programme, you will learn about life in Belgium, and you will learn Dutch.
Not working or studying? Then you will also do social activities in Dutch during your programme. This is called the participation programme.

The aim is for you to meet new people and practise Dutch.

You spend a minimum of 40 hours doing 1 or more activities. You choose activities you find interesting. For example:

  • volunteering
  • meet up with a buddy who speaks Dutch
  • taking up a hobby or sport in a club
  • activities in a community centre
  • a computer course
  • a conversation group
  • a discussion group with parents
  • ...

Your programme counsellor will give you more information. Then you find your own activity and join in.

These social activities have many benefits:

  • You get to know new people.
  • You get to know the city of Antwerp.
  • You learn new things in a new country.
  • You practice Dutch.
  • You gain self-confidence.
  • You do something relaxing.
  • ...

Who should do the participation programme?

  • You have a compulsory civic integration contract.
  • You are not working, studying or doing professional training.
